Painting has been an important part of my life for about 40 years now and I have found that to invest time and effort on anything that delivers great joy, makes time stand still, and makes sense of the world at even a fundamental level is worth it. I have chosen to do this work by painting in oils, soft pastels, porcelain and lately coloured pencil. All of these have their own challenges and all are very satisfying.
Since moving to the Ottawa Valley in 1986, I have found plein aire painting to be a wonderful way to really experience the character of this place and have found it a valuable way to vividly remember not only how a place looks, but also how it felt physically and emotionally to me at the time. Now this is how I spend my holiday time too. I paint everywhere I go whenever I can. Besides plein aire, still life is a joy. I like to create homey, intimate set ups and also enjoy compositions that only exist in my mind.
Some of my work has found homes in the United States and Canada and of course I hope that you enjoy seeing work located here in the valley at the Moose on the Beach restaurant, the Eganville Public Library and in the studio. |
