As long as I can remember I have been drawn to forged iron. I was able to realize my dreams when Haliburton School of Art developed their Artistic Blacksmith Program, of which I was in the first graduating class. To me it is like magic to take a material so hard and unyielding and through heat and hammer shape it into fluid lines. I find beauty in the old blacksmith tools, the graceful sweep of the anvil or the feel of a well made pair of tongs in my hands. It connects me to an art so rich in tradition. For me the excitement stays alive in the room for growth and the many forms awaiting heat and hammer. |
