HUMMINGBIRD WEAVING STUDIO |
|
Shirley has been weaving for 16 years. She studied in Georgetown under the tutelage of a master weaver. She and her husband moved to the Madawaska Valley 12 years ago. Her weaving consists of shawls, shrugs, ponchos, scarves, tea towels, hand towels, table linens, rugs, baby blankets, and tartans, and has been purchased and worn in Indonesia, Britain, Switzerland, and New York City. Many of Shirley’s creations are one of a kind. Custom orders are welcome. She was awarded an Ontario Handweavers and Spinners Scholarship in 1997. She has woven numerous custom orders as well as a special order for the Museum of Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick, had a one person exhibition locally in the Fall of 2006 and participated in the Creative Process Show for Studio Tour members in 2007. Fulfilling her dreams to be a teacher Shirley has taught weaving to children ages six to fourteen including over 90 students from grades one through eight at local schools. Weaving classes for children and adults continue to be taught at her studio in Barry's Bay. The studio is open by request or by chance. |
