Kathy’s lively landscapes are filled with weather, wind, light and rhythmic movement. She works outside on site in all seasons, feeling and telling about the exuberant experience of being there, within the landscape. Her oil paintings tell about adventure and enchantment in wilderness country. Through painting Kathy hopes to impress upon the viewer the power, fragility, simplicity and magic of the natural world. Kathy’s interpretation is strongly influenced by her father Arctic painter Maurice Haycock and by his close painting partner of 30 years, A Y Jackson. Early Arctic trips with her father introduced her to the lure of the North and inspired a sweeping and graceful rhythm in her work. Kathy continues to paint in the Arctic and exhibits throughout southern Ontario with Arctic Quest and international Polar Artists Group. She also exhibits widely with Wild Women, three wilderness painters comprising herself, Joyce Burkholder and Linda Sorensen. At the Woodland Gallery you will find paintings of the Arctic, the American Southwest, but mostly nearby locations throughout the Ottawa Valley and Algonquin Park. The Woodland Studio Gallery is located in a restored heritage log barn. Come visit during the Studio Tour weekend or at any other time, please call first. |
